December 19, 2007 —

Most magazines do not make money on subscriptions or newsstand sales. In fact, they spend a ton of money just to get people to buy copies or subscribe. So GOOD Magazine came up with the idea of giving away all subscription fees and allowing subscribers to choose which organization they would like to support.

The company hopes that this approach help them find quality subscribers through word of mouth, Internet links, media coverage, mailings, and partner organizations, and to raise significant money for organizations that will do something important with it.

The company's goal in the next year is to achieve 50,000 subscribers, and to contribute $1 million to nonprofit partners. And to put out a great magazine.
